20 Celebs Who Are Rude in Real Life

It's impossible to be in the best of moods all the time, especially if you're a celeb who's always in the public eye. But that’s also no reason to be rude. We don't know our favorite celebrities beyond their perfectly curated images on social media. So we have no way of knowing what's real and what's not. Stars continue to benefit from the halo effect of their on-screen characters, and it makes us believe that they're as good in person as they're on screen. Well, this isn't always the case, and some are just insolent. We now know why they say you should never meet your heroes! Here's the scoop on celebrities who are mean in real life.
Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe
The Oscar-winning actor seems to have some serious anger issues. He has, in the past, yelled at his colleagues, fans, reporters, and probably anybody in his sight. Once, while singing a song on a talk show, he lost his cool on the audience for not clapping to the beat. Really, Crowe? Another incident was when he went into a frenzy over a telephone line when he couldn’t reach his wife, who at that time was in Australia. This led to a disagreement with an employee at NYC's Mercer Hotel, and the actor threw a phone at him, which, btw, hit the employee’s face. Thankfully, Crowe didn't get away with this one. He was arrested on assault charges, for which he pleaded guilty. The case was then settled for $1,00,000 to keep it from turning into a civil lawsuit. We hope that the actor doesn’t make the same mistake again! Crowe also hurled racial slurs at rapper Azealia Banks and spat on her.
Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande
"The Thank You, Next" singer has quickly earned a "diva" reputation, and we can see why. According to reports, she is quite rude to fans and only likes to take pictures or be photographed from certain angles. Here's some tea! Grande once got caught licking donuts in a cafe before putting them back on the shelves for people to eat! Um...we don't know what to say! She also threw a fit in the middle of a photoshoot and left halfway through to change her outfit. However, she didn't return for the shoot. This is not the first time Grande has been accused of being a diva. In fact, she knows how her behavior can come off as. She once confessed that she was the "most sardonic person" someone could have met. Her problematic behavior does not end there. In 2015, she faced a few issues with her microphone and couldn't complete her on-stage routine. The singer defended herself by throwing shade at Selena Gomez’s lip-synced performance, saying, “At least you know I wasn’t singing to a track.” That's not all! Grande dropped a “s**t bomb” in the middle of a live performance on SNL. Not cool!
John Hamm

John Hamm
Kathy Griffin holds back no punches. We all know that! She called Woody Allen creepy (we are not surprised) and went after Ellen and said she has a mean streak. So when she spoke about Hamm's problematic behavior, we were a little surprised. The Mad Men actor may have an immense fan following but not after reading this. At an event, Hamm questioned Griffin's presence at a party and told her that her Emmy was not a "real" Emmy. Whatever that's supposed to mean! That's not all! While she was having a conversation with Jack Nicholson, a drunk Hamm approached her again and told her that she was old. Now, that’s just next-level mean! Griffin confessed how no one could ever convince her to like John Hamm. And we don't blame her. She wrote in her book, "The vibe I’ve always gotten from him is cold and somewhat disrespectful … toward me. I’m suggesting he’s one of these hot guys who’s mildly funny but actually thinks he’s comedian-level funny."
Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brosnan
It wasn't until James Corden spilled the beans about his encounter with Pierce Brosnan that we realized how rude the actor could be. The comedian revealed that he met the Remington Steele star at a U2 concert. Brosnan had left the gig halfway through and didn't return for a long time. Thinking that he had left for good, Corden moved to his space, but he was shoved out of the way by Brosnan when he returned. While that is pretty rude, the Late Late Night Show comedian has got a bit of a mean streak himself. When he got on Reddit with five other members of the “Carpool Karaoke,” the audience ensured to roast the comedian with stories where he has been a tad too full of himself and egoistic. It’s safe to say that the episode was a bummer, and we won’t see Corden trying anything like that ever again. Also, might we remind you of the cold comments shared between Corden and Patrick Stewart at the 2010 Glamour Awards. When Stewart came on stage to present an award, he said that he could see Corden’s belly from where he was seated. We agree that’s uncalled for. The comedian sure didn’t settle without a comeback. His response? “We can all see you dying right now."
Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon
The Legally Blonde star who won our hearts with her bubbly and sweet on-screen character is quite different in real life and has a mean disposition. Although she has won two Academy Awards as best actress for Wild and Walk the Line, she has not won many hearts in the industry. A renowned director once called out Reese Witherspoon for being rude to him at a Hollywood party. When he congratulated her for her performance in a film, all he got from the actress was a dead-eyed look and I-couldn't-care-less attitude. The actress was also disrespectful to an officer when she got pulled over for drunk driving. Well, she made sure he knew who she was at the very least. Also, her bad rapport with her father and stepmother surfaced when she married Jim Toth in 2011. Her father almost didn’t walk her down the aisle for her disrespectful behavior toward him on that day.
Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence
While we all know how talented Jennifer Lawrence really is—there is an Academy Award and three nominations under her belt to prove that—there is no denying that she is not very good at handling herself amid fans. It is not just us saying it; she confessed this in an interview about how she becomes “incredibly rude when she’s in a public place.” The actress acknowledged that she bluntly refuses her fans’ requests for pictures or autographs. She also mentioned in an interview how her fame was taking a toll on her mental wellness. While the actress says it is her defense mechanism to not deal with fans, we say it’s no excuse to be so mean. In fact, the actress also confessed that she dissuades fans from approaching her when she's eating out by wagging her finger and shooting them a sour look. She added that she sometimes uses the tactic of simply saying, "I'm not working today" when people approach her photos. That's not all! The Silver Linings Playbook actress has been slammed for reprimanding a foreign reporter. What for? Because he read out questions off his phone!
Mike Myers

Mike Myers
Have you wondered why Mike Myers has been MIA lately? The actor who has worked in over 150 shows seems to have hit a bad patch in his career. And it might be because of his problematic behavior. Amy Hill, his co-star in The Cat in the Hat, revealed that it was a nightmare to work with the actor. His complete disregard for shoot timings and his constant stream of demands earned him the name "Diva." If that's not enough, he employed a person whose job was to run after him and feed him chocolates. Yikes! Talk about high maintenance! He even fired actors on the sets of The Love Guru for making eye contact. While we have discovered that the actor treats his co-stars terribly, he also made sure that Shrek was redone again because he thought the character should have a Scottish accent. Guess nobody misses him no more!
Tobey Maguire

Tobey Maguire
It turns out that Tobey Maguire, the actor who played the shy, sweet-natured Peter Parker, isn’t all that nice in real life. According to Molly Bloom, the author of Molly's Game, the actor “was the worst tipper, the best player, and the absolute worst loser" when it came to playing Poker. He insulted her by asking her to "bark like a seal who wants a fish" for a $1,000 chip. He also demanded the Poker committee hire a shuffling machine because he didn’t trust their people. To add to their misery, he offered to buy a card shuffling machine but only if they paid him rent for every night it was used. Another embarrassing instance from Maguire’s career was when he tried to fake an injury to get a pay hike on the Spider Man sequel. Little did he know that he was calling for nothing but bad press. And yes, after Sony found out about his cheap antics, they replaced him with Jake Gyllenhaal.
Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz has a theory that it's rude to show up on time. Yes, you read that right. Apparently, she thinks she's unpunctual because she was three weeks late being born. Celebrities and their theories! That's not it. The Bad Teacher actress decided to ditch the premiere of her film In Her Shoes and whiled away her time in a cafe instead. Her co-stars and fans waited for her to come, but she didn't show up. She is definitely one of the celebrities who is rude to fans. It looks like the actress was rightly picked for her role in Bad Teacher as the self-centered, narcissistic, and closed-off Elizabeth Halsey. Ironically, Diaz mentioned how much she enjoyed playing Elizabeth Halsey. Anyhoo! She is also reportedly known to lecture her fans about how lame autographs are. Honestly, fans who have met her once will not want to run into her again.
Jared Leto

Jared Leto
There are so many unpleasant stories associated with Jared Leto that this thread will simply not suffice. Apart from humiliating his fans by being rude to them, Leto has crossed all levels of bizarre by sending the Suicide Squad team used condoms, a live rat, weird sex toys, and a dead pig on account of being in character. Ew! That ain’t funny, Leto! And being a methodical actor is no excuse either. Back in 2006, actor Elijah Wood was on the receiving end of Leto's baffling behavior. Leto wasn't all too happy with Wood's opinion of his music and decided to give The Lord of the Rings actor an earful. In fact, this whole incident bugged Leto so much that he grabbed Wood. Touchy, much? Many women have come forward and accused Leto of misconduct. Unfortunately, the list of his tomfoolery is long, and let’s just say, there’s no stopping him.
Amy Schumer

Amy Schumer
The comedian attracted backlash quickly after her career took off. She reportedly hates being photographed with fans. Schumer also showed up drunk on the sets of I Feel Pretty, completely disregarding the cast and crew’s time and effort. That’s not the only time she has been so inconsiderate. She once took over a comedian’s gig just to practice her SNL monologue. But with Amy Schumer, there’s definitely more. The comedian has been called out for stealing jokes, so much so that she had to get on the radio to defend herself. She stole a joke from Wendy Liebman while performing a stand-up routine in 1999. She also tweaked a joke by Kathleen Madigan at a 2011 stand-up gig. And when she’s not stealing content, Schumer is infamous for making racist and sexist comments. Might we remind you of her tweet where she outright mentioned how men of color catcall women on the street more than white men?
Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen
The actor is much like his character from Two and a Half Men. There are numerous instances of Sheen being a problematic person. For starters, he damaged his hotel room in a drunken rage. He publicly insulted Chuck Lorre, the producer of the show, and called him a "maggot" and a "loser." The actor sued the producer and Warner Bros. Studios for a whopping $100 million after being thrown out from the show. He alleged that Lorre harassed him. To add to this controversy, he called the producer a "clown" and a "turd." And who can forget his complete disregard for his partners and having unprotected sex with them without telling them that he was HIV positive? The actor was also sued for assault and battery by a Los Angeles dental technician who claimed that Sheen punched her in the chest during an office visit. He was previously arrested for second-degree assault toward his then-wife Brooke Mueller.
Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres
Seeing the name of the beloved host, who made us laugh out a little louder, on this list might take some by surprise, but there are one too many unpleasant stories associated with Ellen that gave her a bad reputation. It wasn’t openly spoken of until March 2020 when comedian Kevin Porter took to Twitter to encourage people to share stories of Ellen being mean to them. The thread went viral and generated over 2,000 responses. It came to light that she kept a bowl of gum outside her office for people before they entered her office, as she had a “sensitive” nose. Ellen even sent her staff back home to take a shower if she thought they smelled. This is one of the “celebrity rude moments” we can’t get over! The talk show host sparked backlash again after joking that social distancing at home is like being in jail. As expected, her comment didn't go down well and struck many as "tone-deaf." Her joke was insensitive, as prisons across the country witnessed an increase of inmates testing positive for Covid. After suspending production on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the host turned to YouTube to kick off the “at-home edition” of the syndicated program. However, despite her effort to use her talent “as a distraction, as a break from whatever’s going on out there that may be unpleasant,” her toxic behavior toward her employees and a few other controversies have landed her in hot water. After the many allegations that brought the show under fire, it comes as no surprise that the series is set to end after the upcoming season.
Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts
It turns out, “Pretty Woman” is not all that nice and is infamous for how she treats her colleagues. The actress’s biggest controversy reported to date has been her tiff with her former co-star Nick Nolte. The The Prince of Tides actor has always been vocal about her not being a nice person. This was after Roberts called him disgusting, and it was not the only time the star ruffled a few feathers. After directing the actress in Hook, Steven Spielberg confessed that it was unfortunate for him to have worked with Roberts. In fact, her rude disposition earned her the nickname "Tinker Hell." Ouch! When he was asked in an interview if he would consider working with her again, Spielberg said, “This is a 60 minutes question, isn’t it?” Before adding a monosyllabic “No.” Movie critic Roger Friedman also gave a statement saying she was “rude, downright nasty, and dismissive.” In fact, in an interview with "Harper's Bazaar U.K.," Roberts confessed, "I was my priority, a selfish little brat running around making films."
Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock
It is quite common for fans to walk up to stars for autographs and pictures, especially if that star is Sandra Bullock. However, it looks like Bullock isn't all that keen on meeting fans. It is quite disheartening to know that the actress who captivated us in our all-time favorite films is not as lovely as her character in Miss Congeniality but is more like her aloof and unpleasant persona in The Proposal. She was called out for her rude behavior toward a veteran who used a wheelchair. It was reported that the actress covered her face when a fan approached her for an autograph. This is not the first time she has been disrespectful to fans. In fact, she has hurled verbal abuses at journalists and critics in the past. Honestly, it is this behavior that makes us want to rethink showing love to our favorite stars.
Madonna

Madonna
The Queen of Pop, who has made a name for herself in the music industry, gained a reputation for being mean to her fans and colleagues, including Elton John, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Demi Moore. Her rude behavior actually got her banned from the Drafthouse, a theater. Charles Taylor, a film critic, who was seated behind Madonna for the event, recalled how she treated a woman after she reminded the singer of the theater's strict no-texting, no-talking policy. Instead of putting her phone away, Madonna lashed out at the lady, saying, “It’s for business, enslaver.” The CEO of the theater tweeted out that the singer was banned until she apologized for her actions. She is undoubtedly one of the top ten celebrities who are rude in real life. Madonna gave Sir Ian Murray McKellen, a guest star on The Graham Norton Show, the cold shoulder. Fans were quick to notice her behavior and took to Twitter to call her out. Her appearance on the chat show definitely had some awkward moments. The singer moved away from McKellen when he sat down on the couch, and when Graham asked if they had met before, she replied saying, "Have we? I don’t think so." McKellen corrected her and said that they were on the same bill for a charity event.
Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow
The actress has, on many occasions, put her foot in the mouth in public. There have been too many times wherein she has made ridiculous and tone-deaf statements like, "I would rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a tin." Gwyneth Paltrow has been called out numerous times for being condescending and faced backlash when she said that being a celebrity mother was tougher than being a mother with another job. The actress went a little too far with her comment, “I am who I am. I can't pretend to be somebody who makes $25,000 a year." Yeah, that is enough to put your fans off! Paltrow, who is the CEO of Goop, came under fire in recent years for promoting ridiculously expensive and misleading products that are medically unproven and dangerous. Goop had to pay a $145,000 fine for claiming that vagina “eggs” could enhance orgasm and improve bladder control. In fact, gynecologists said that these would likely lead to bacterial infections and called these claims wide of the mark.
Jerry Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld
Remember the time when Seinfeld almost sold an inauthentic Porsche to Fica Frio and pretended to be completely oblivious of it not being a genuine model? Obviously, that got him bad press. And who can forget the time when he snubbed Kesha and refused to hug her? He defended himself, saying that he has a no-hugging rule. While we do understand that everyone is not comfortable with hugging, we do think he could have dealt with the situation tactfully. But the incident that takes the cake was his harsh reaction toward Larry King when he asked him a question about his eponymous sitcom. The comedian retorted, saying, "Do you know who I am? 75 million viewers, the last episode!" Touchy, much? This particular exchange came as no surprise to netizens, as Seinfeld has a long history of being rude to actors and fans. He has been rude to many other talk show hosts, including Seth Meyers.
Ben Stiller

Ben Stiller
We all remember Stiller playing the "screamer" in Friends, and we often wonder if the character bore any semblance to the actor. Although he’s not "as" rude in real life, a few Ben Stiller moments indicate that he might not always be on his best behavior. One such moment occurred when the actor was at a magazine shoot. He called his publicist to speak to the editor and ask for the air conditioner to be turned on. Now you might think that is a reasonable request to make. Well, this happened when Mickey Boardman, the editor, was standing right next to him. It would indeed be much simpler if Stiller spoke to Mickey instead of making that call and acting like a total snob! The comedian was surprisingly nasty to his staff when directing the satirical action comedy Tropic Thunder in 2008. According to the people who worked on the set, Stiller was also quite rude to everyone aside from being extremely controlling. He flipped his lid when he noticed there weren’t exactly two ice cubes in his Diet Coke. Um, what? That's not all! He actually fired someone for not adding enough sugar in his cuppa joe. Ten points for guessing who's not as sweet as sugar! The bizarre list of things Stiller makes his staff do does not end here. He made his personal assistant wait in a parking space despite it being reserved for him and labeled with his nameplate.
Shia LaBeouf

Shia LaBeouf
The Disney star made headlines, not just for his work but unfortunately for his unpleasant behavior as well. While filming for a movie, an intern had to follow the actor everywhere he went, and when he tried to talk to LaBeouf during a smoke break, he outright said that they didn't have to make small talk and continued smoking. However, that wasn't the only incident that put him in everyone's bad books. LaBeouf has been accused of sexual assault and white privilege. Despite the bad press attached to his image, he was offered the thriller Don’t Worry Darling, which he managed to lose, courtesy of his less than graceful behavior. It was the director of the film, Olivia Wilde, who he messed with this time, and she clearly didn’t want to put up with the actor’s bad attitude. Fans were also furious with LaBeouf for his disrespectful behavior toward Zack Gottsagen, the first actor with a disability to present at the Academy Awards.
